Scalextric Nostalgia
Often I find myself worrying about not being productive enough. I think this is quite common these days especially with social media telling us the false dreams we could achieve. Sometimes when I’m chilling I realise I don’t feel rested because my mind is worrying about what I could be doing instead.
Yesterday was one of these days, I spent the whole day preoccupied by the idea that I should be doing something more important or maybe something which pushes me towards my goals.
Stop Taking Life So Seriously
Towards the end of the day I felt fed up thinking I had ‘wasted’ the day, so I sat on the sofa overthinking and ruminating. This was, until my brother came home with a new Scalextric set. You know the little plastic roads which make a race track with toy cars controlled by some wired remotes. Yes, we’re both in our twenties, and yes we both sat there for hours racing each other and laughing. The nostalgia made us lose track of time and just focus on what was in front of us.
After a couple hours of playing like children it occurred to me, Theo stop taking life so seriously. I’m twenty-one and have so much time on my hands to worry about money and jobs and everything which society tells us is important. But at the end of the day if I can’t just sit there and play a game with my family what sort of life am I living.
Living in the present isn’t always easy but sometimes it’s as simple as getting out an old game or going for a short walk with no destination in mind. Try a mindful walk where you simply focus on what you can see and everytime your mind starts to wander just focus back on your surroundings. It’s a skill we have to master but an important one which I find super beneficial.
Anyway that’s all for today, I hope I’ve inspired you to relax and just focus on what’s tangible in front of you. Get out of your head today and your mind will thank you.
